Atletico “close” to Marcos Alonso agreement and Trippier ban could help move

Marcos Alonso is “close” to a move to Atletico Madrid, according to reports in Marca today.

The left back is totally out of the reckoning at Chelsea, who will enjoy the chance to trim their wage bill and potentially increase the player’s value ahead of a summer sale.

Atletico meanwhile are looking for cover at full back after losing Kieran Trippier on a long ban for giving information on his own transfer to the club.

Trippier plays on the right, but winger Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco could switch to that side and create space for Alonso down the left.

At this stage, Chelsea will just be keen to get the Spaniard out and playing somewhere, and it’s hard to see them not being able to figure something out with Atletico at some point. It will be a useful fresh start for the player, as he looks to regenerate his career for its second act.
