Two English Chelsea players link up for unique Champions League stat

Reece James is an absolute menace down the right flank, especially in games like this where there’s space for the full back to overlap.

He’s put in a few superb crosses in recent games without any reward, so it was nice to see him finally pick up an assist tonight. His whipped cross found Tammy Abraham in the six yard box, and the striker only had to turn the ball home from close range to make it 3-0.

That goal did more than just wrap up three points for Chelsea tonight though. It also marked a very special record:

As BT Sport pointed out, it was the first time an English player assisted another English player for Chelsea at home in the Champions League since 2012 – in that famous comeback against Napoli on the way to winning the competition.

We’ve got a feeling we won’t have to wait so long for the next one.
