Thiago Silva was left at home for today’s game against Newcastle United, and there were fears that without him the team would suffer as they did against Southampton.
Those fears were, as it turns out, unfounded. Kurt Zouma stepped up in his partner’s absence and put in another assured showing at the back as the Blues kept an easy clean sheet.
Kurt Zouma has made more successful passes, more clearances and won more aerial duels than any other Chelsea player in the Premier League this season.
What a season he's having. pic.twitter.com/1FkndxeFXM

The numbers he put up today added to his totals to the season point to a truly exceptional campaign.
As you can see the Tweet above from Squawka, Zouma has won more aerial duels, made the most clearances and the most successful passes of any player in the league.
He, along with the rest of his back four, have 4 clean sheets in the top flight already, and they only look to be getting stronger.
The struggles of last season are well and truly behind him now, and we can’t wait to see him back with Silva in midweek.
nice work zouma
