Mason Mount has a terrible reputation as a teacher’s pet at club level, because of the way Frank Lampard managed him at Derby and then brought him back from loan to Chelsea.
That reputation has now moved across to England duty, where Gareth Southgate is consistently mocked for picking the hard-working and dutiful fresh faced academy boy ahead of cool big-calved maverick Jack Grealish of Aston Villa.
Gareth Southgate: “I suppose on that (Grealish starting debate) you’re referring to Mason, whose only crime is not to be Jack at the moment. I’m also aware I should talk about Mason because then it keeps the memes going of me talking about Mason.” [@TelegraphSport] #avfc

It’s a ridiculous argument to begin with, and we won’t get into the faulty logic of the people who think the two are interchangable.
Southgate even referenced the “memes” that have been going around, mostly featuring him romancing Mount in various film settings.
Meanwhile on Twitter, the debate raged back and forth about whether Mount was a deserving Golden Boy, or whether he was getting preferential treatment at England now as well as Chelsea.
You can see a collection of the reactions and jokes embedded here:
“Jack Grealish played really well against Arsenal tonight and was arguably the best player on the pitch, what are his chances on starting for England, Gareth?”
“Well, you just have to look at Mason Mount watching from home. He’s done really well to turn the telly on.” pic.twitter.com/4fPHzLyj9e

It's so weird. Mount is a number 8. When last did Grealish even play as a number ten. He's an inside forward. Competing with Rashford/Sterling/Sancho for a place on the left for England.
Amazing player though, huge Grealish fan, would not look out of place in any of the top 6.

This doesn't help Mason Mount, also seems to show he's fed up of being asked about Grealish.
