Former Chelsea player thinks “decent” Tammy Abraham isn’t up to Champions League standard

It’s hard to not be positive about Chelsea at the moment. They’re winning games, keeping clean sheets and looking like a side that will only get better with time.

Alan Hudson, former Blue, has managed to find a negative though, in his interview with CaughtOffside today.

While he was full of praise for Timo Werner, he wasn’t as sure about Tammy Abraham. Hudson has serious doubts about whether he’s good enough to take the Blues to the next level, despite his recent excellent form:

“He is a very decent player but to become a force in the Champions League, Chelsea need something better to led the line.”

We’re not sur about that. He dropped off towards the end of last season, and his lanky style isn’t always the most elegant to watch, but Abraham is a born goal machine, and he’s proved that at every level he’s played at so far.

Another season’s worth of experience should serve him well, with games like tomorrow night’s providing a good chance to add more to his European total.

Let’s see if Hudson is eating his words in a year’s time.
