This Chelsea starter’s quality was “forgotten” says his manager

Frank Lampard is taking his press conference ahead of the Champions League game with Rennes tomorrow night, and he’s taken the chance to tip his hat to one of the understated stars of the last few weeks.

Tammy Abraham has three goals in three games following his effort against Newcastle at the weekend, and even before that run he was getting assists and goals off the bench.

“I must say, I think in some parts it was forgotten how good [Tammy] was in the first half of last season,” Lampard said of the 23 year old.

There’s no doubting that’s the case. The struggles the forward had (along with the rest of the team) after Christmas last season really pushed fans to underplay just how influential the number 9 had been in the early stages of the campaign.

This year he’s already forced his way into the starting XI with his performances, and he looks to already have made that spot his own, despite the arrival of Timo Werner as a rival.

If he keeps scoring like this, he won’t remain forgotten for long.
