Chelsea legend says he would “have loved to have played with” Thiago Silva

Chelsea were experiencing some real defensive problems last season, something that they have not been overly used to in recent times.

Over the years there have been many solid defensive partnerships at the club, and one of the best ever was John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho.

Terry will go down as one of the greatest ever Chelsea players, and one of the best centre backs to ever play the game.

The Blues legend has been speaking about the current Chelsea centre backs, and he is very pleased that Frank Lampard signed veteran defender Thiago Silva in the summer and believes his experience is exactly what they needed at the back.

The Brazilian international has come in and instantly calmed things down for Chelsea and helped them stabilise a leaky defence.

Lampard knew this was a major issue to address this summer, and Terry knew it as well.

Speaking to Sports Gazette, Terry said:

“I think with the likes of Thiago Silva coming to Chelsea – he’s one player I’d have loved to have played with.

“It’s so good to have him in and around the football club because the likes of Kurt, Fikayo, Andreas – to have that kind of experienced player, to see what Thiago’s done in the game, to learn from him on a daily basis.

“When I first came through, I had [Marcel] Desailly to guide me through and talk to me – just that communication level is going to serve them so well.

“I hope every defender there is talking to Thiago and learning as much as they can from him – because they certainly look better since he’s been in. It’s a smart move by the owners and a great signing from Frank.”
