Chelsea given boost by Newcastle injury news

Steve Bruce has just given his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Chelsea – Newcastle match, and the Magpies manager had some news that will make fans of the other team happier than fans of his own.

The team from the North East have been performing above expectations this season, in large part thanks to the form of striker Callum Wilson, signed from Bournemouth in the summer.

Their other addition, Ryan Fraser, also signed from the Cherries, has played less but is also expected to be a key player for them going forward.

According to Bruce though, they will be without one and very possibly both of their attacking pieces.

“Ryan Fraser won’t make it for Saturday but Callum Wilson has a chance,” he admitted in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“If there’s any risk whatsoever then he won’t play but he has trained the last few days and was very comfortable yesterday. He wants to play… It might be a bit early for Jonjo Shelvey.”

So that’s Fraser out, Wilson possibly out or at the very least half fit, and Shelvey in a similar situation. That’s a huge chunk of the home side’s attacking threat neutralised.

That should offset the likely absence of Thiago Silva. If we can score a couple, that should be enough to walk away with three points here.
