The team that earned Chelsea their last home Champions League clean sheet

Chelsea kept a home clean sheet in the Champions League tonight against an impressive Sevilla team, and that performance was only enhanced with the knowledge that it’s been 3 years since the last time they achieved such a feat.

It’s true that they spent one year in the Europa League under Maurizio Sarri, but it’s still wild to think it was 2017 the last time the Blues shut out an opponent in the Champions League at home.

It was a crushing 6-0 win too, to make things even tastier.

The best way of illustrating how long it’s been is to look at the team that started that game in Antonio Conte’s second season, when everything looked so bright.

This was the lineup that night:

13 Thibaut Courtois
3 Marcos Alonso
4 Cesc Fàbregas
7 N’Golo Kanté
11 Pedro
21 Davide Zappacosta
22 Willian
23 Michy Batshuayi
24 Gary Cahill
27 Andreas Christensen
28 César Azpilicueta

Of those players, only Thibaut Courtois, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, Davide Zappacosta, Willian, Michy Batshuayi and Gary Cahill are not currently at the club, or have left permanently.

Thing looked so bright back then, but we’re in a new era now.
