Sevilla continue impressive record against English sides

Chelsea really struggled against a professional and well organised Sevilla side tonight at Stamford Bridge.

The Spanish team dominated possession for large parts of the game without creating great chances, as Chelsea increasingly opened themselves up in transition looking to win the match.

This isn’t the first that that an English side has struggled against the Andalusians in a match in recent years. The Perennials Europa League champions are in fact now 8 game unbeaten against English teams.

Colin Millar of Football Espana tweeted the following stat that illustrated just how effective they’ve been:

Chelsea could have done a lot better tonight, there’s no doubt of that. But it shouldn’t be forgotten that they were up against top opposition. Sevilla will be a real threat in this group, and Frank Lampard will have to hope his team looks a lot more settled and coherent the next time they face each other.
