We can’t believe we’re writing this.
Petr Cech has been included in Chelsea’s Premier League squad for this season, according to the squad list on the league’s website. Liam Twomey from the Athletic seemed to be the first to notice the inclusion:
Erm, guys… Petr Cech is on Chelsea’s squad list for the Premier League #CFC https://t.co/WxieOTJqPM pic.twitter.com/1YxtVXlz6W

And fellow Chelsea specialist Oliver Harbord later had the full scoop on the incident with a quote from the club:
'Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover. This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the Covid-19 crisis. He takes up a position as a non-contract player' #cfc

It’s a news-generating move, that’s for sure, and stranger things have happened than the current director of football seeing action on the pitch – but we still wouldn’t bet on it happening.
Edouard Mendy returns to the first team tonight, and assuming he has no complications from his injury, he can play every game going forward.
Were he to miss out, the Blues would surely still pick Kepa Arrizabalaga or Willy Caballero ahead of Cech.
You’d have thought the last thing we wanted at the moment was more goalkeeper headlines.
