We’ve known it was coming since the starting XIs were announced. After a third start in a week, both Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have just been subbed off after 70 minutes.
Changes were probably needed, given Chelsea have been lacking ideas for most of this game, but taking off your two big name, big money attacking signings is still eye-catching.
“They look so off” said one Twitter user, and it was hard to disagree with that take.
Frank Lampard has Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham to bring on, both key figures last season, so it’s not a totally outlandish move, but it was interesting to to gauge the reaction on social media to how the German pair had played, and what they made of the change.
Some said Lampard had waited too long to make the change, others were angry he’d taken them off. He really can’t win it seems.
You can see a collection of the reaction embedded below:
Lampard is our problem. What is ziyech doing on the bench?? He is the most creative player and rather lamps prefer him to sit on the bench..

Imagine having a generational talent like Havertz and a killer in Werner & that's how you play? smh

Taking off werner and havertz is basically saying we settle for a draw, I don't wanna be negative but it seems like we becoming a club that should be happy we don't lose and that's not it.

Werner and Havertz leave the pitch as the worst players in the game for the Blues.
