Kepa could be back in goal for Chelsea already after latest injury update

Frank Lampard has just held Chelsea’s pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Southampton tomorrow, and the first section was dominated by injury news.

After a hectic international fortnight several players were concerns, and one who Frank was able to definitively rule out was Edouard Mendy.

The stopper only signed from Rennes a short while ago, and has played just one Premier League match. But a muscle problem picked up on international duty with Senegal has definitively ruled him out of tomorrow’s game.

That means Kepa could be back in the picture, after playing for Spain in the week. He will compete with Willy Caballero to play, although later in the conference Lampard declined the chance to say who he would pick.

In the end, if we score enough goals it won’t matter who we’ve got in the net. So let’s hope Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have their shooting boots on.
