“I’m very happy he’s here” – Chelsea defender delighted at inspirational arrival

Chelsea went into the international break off the back of a really impressive 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.

Scoring 4 goals was nice, of course, but what was really impressive was the way the team defender.

The dangerous counter-attacking threat provided by Wilf Zaha and Eberechi Eze was totally nullified, in no small part thanks to the composed and defender of central defenders Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva.

The former has been speaking about the latter in quotes on the official club website, where he explains the influence the Brazilian is already having at Chelsea:

“You can see straight away, as soon as he [Thiago Silva] walked through the door at Cobham, he gives advice to the players around him, he’s really good with people and you can definitely see he has very good leadership skills,” Zouma explained.

“For me, he’s got everything. He’s calm on the ball, he can defend very well, his positioning is great. I’m very happy he’s here and excited to learn from him.”

Silva is in his late 30s now, and probably only has a season or two left in him at the top level. Apart from just being brilliant in those two years, the best thing he can do for the club is pass on some of that knowledge and leadership to Zouma, who looks like he’s going to be his main partner at the back for the foreseeable future.
