Frank Lampard rates Thiago Silva’s first Champions League performance for Chelsea

Chelsea just played out a 0-0 draw with Sevilla where they really struggled to create chances going forward.

Frank Lampard’s team really struggled to control the game from midfield, but the positive was that they looked very defensively solid.

The manager spoke about the performance of his defenders in the press conference after the game, and in quotes picked out by Football.London,

“I thought he was very good today and he brought experience and quality,” Lampard explained.

“He affects others around him. I will manage him and I have a good relationship with him already. I remember myself being in that position. I will be aware of it.”

The Brazil defender still clearly isn’t fully fit, and he appeared to cramp up at one point during the game. After playing in South America the previous week, it wasn’t surprising to see him struggling.

But given the big difference he made to his team at the back, it will be interesting to see whether he’s risked against Manchester United at the weekend.

It will be a risk – but not using him looks like an equally dangerous decision to use him right now. Without him, we could be torn apart.
