Frank Lampard points out defensive statistic that shows things are better than they look for Chelsea

Another week where Chelsea conceded three goals has meant another round of criticism for the work of manager Frank Lampard.

Despite the fact that there was some dire individual defending on at least two of those goals, some have pointed to the number of goals conceded over the year and a bit since the manager arrived as proof that his coaching isn’t up to scratch.

When that was put to him in the press conference today, he defended himself with a statistic of his own, as you can see in the quote from Simon Johnson:

It’s true, only Man City have had fewer shots against them than Chelsea have since Lampard arrived. Of course that means we’re giving away some chances that are easily scored, but it’s also more easily fixed than other problems.

With a more competent goalkeeper, and our first choice defenders back in the team, we could suddenly see a jump in the number of clean sheets we keep.
