Chelsea a candidate to join new FIFA-backed European Premier League

Let’s face it, 2020 has so far been an insane year, and it’s just got crazier.

Sky Sports breaking news are reporting a brand new plan to launch a new 18-club FIFA-backed European Premier League competition.

Chelsea are one of the candidates to be involved in the launch, alongside potentially Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

It appears that the league will run alongside the current European leagues as another competition, and the top placed teams in the league at the end of the campaign will compete to win the trophy, that will be worth millions.

The launch is being backed by a $6 billion (£4.6 billion) financing package.

More than a dozen teams from England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are in negotiations about becoming founder members of the competition.

FIFA have already been involved in the development, and the league could launch as early as 2022.

The Tournament could usurp the Champions League, making it Europe’s new most prestigious competition.
