Boss talks up “big impact” of Chelsea loanee who “has gone down well in the dressing room”

Chelsea have a large array of talent currently out on loan at different clubs around the world.

One of those players who decided to stay closer to home is already having a “big impact” and “has gone down well in the dressing room” according to his boss, is Ross Barkley.

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has been talking up the England international and how he has made a big difference for them already.

The Chelsea midfielder has really hit the ground running at his new loan club in an attempt to get re-noticed by England manager Gareth Southgate.

To do this, he needed to be playing regular football, and he was very unlikely to get that at Chelsea.

Barkley has always been quite inconsistent at Chelsea, but perhaps he just needs a regular run of games to be able to build up that momentum and confidence to be able to be that consistently good top quality player that many have touted him to be.

As reported by Sky Sports, Smith said:

“He has made a big impact, even just in the dressing room. That fact that we have been able to entice that calibre of player into the club has gone down well in the dressing room, with our staff and fans as well.

“He is a top player who has been in and amongst the Champions League in the last three or four years and has been a regular starter for England. His job now is to do well with Villa.

“I’m sure Gareth Southgate will be watching and will be quite pleased he is playing regularly in the Premier League. That is what he felt he needed to do to get re-noticed. We are giving him the platform to do that.

“[A permanent deal for Barkley is] nothing that has been talked about, our discussions were only for the end of the season.”
