Thiago Silva unlikely to feature against Liverpool despite arrival in training

This afternoon saw the first images of Thiago Silva in full Chelsea training emerge.

It’s very exciting, and plenty of fans are hoping he will have time to be ready for our next game. We’ve desperately lacked a leader in the team, as well as experience and solidity at the back. Silva brings all that, and so much more.

Despite the dominant defender’s return to action, we would be very surprised to see him in action against Liverpool on Sunday. Assuming Saturday is a half-session, that will mean just three full days training with his new teammates, not sufficient for a centre back to settle in and feel comfortable with the team’s shape.

Considering he will be up against the quickest and most dangerous front three in the league (at least until Christian Pulisic is fit), it seems like a huge risk for Frank Lampard to take.

Apart from that, it would be a little unfair on Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen, who were excellent against Brighton on Monday.

We will see Thiago very soon – but maybe not on Sunday.
