“We all have the right mentality” – Hudson-Odoi reports good Chelsea team spirit despite stuttering start

Chelsea are back in training today preparing for the next test after a disappointing draw against West Brom at the weekend.

Games are coming thick and fast for The Blues right now and they are in action against Tottenham tomorrow evening in the Carabao Cup.

One of the shining lights from their generally poor showing on Saturday has reassured fans that the players have a great team spirit and “we all have the right mentality”, despite a stuttering start to the season.

Callum Hudson-Odoi scored one of Chelsea’s come back goals after coming on as a half time substitute.

The 19-year old helped turn the game around for Chelsea and the players showed good spirit to at least claw back three goals to save a point at least.

Hudson-Odoi has been speaking to the Chelsea website after the game and the winger believes he and his team mates will bounce back.

He said:

“Getting the goal through Mason early in the second half helped us, and I think we all thought that it [a comeback] was on from that point.

“It put a lot of pressure onto West Brom from the start, and we were confident at that point. We were onto them straightaway and we knew we just had to keep pushing, keep attacking and that the goals would eventually come for us.

“For me personally, I just wanted to come on and have an input to the game. We were direct as a team, I was allowed to run at my defender and put crosses in and I was glad we were able to get our goals.

“We definitely felt we were still in the game. No matter what the score is, in football you always feel like you have a chance to turn things around.

“At half-time we all said the same thing, we need to keep our heads up and get back out there and get the goals we need to turn the game around as quick as possible.

“We needed the goals to get something from this game and I think we all thought we could turn this around. Even for me while I was warming up, I felt that if we kept playing the way we were doing, continued to work hard and attacked then I felt we could get our goals. Luckily we managed to do that.

“We showed great character to turn things around Unfortunately we couldn’t get the win, but given that we were 3-0 down we will take the point and move on.”
