No guarantee Ampadu will be able to start at Sheffield United warns local press

Ethan Ampadu signed for Sheffield United on a season-long loan yesterday, and there is a piece today in the local press discussing the move.

They are excited of course, to have such a talented player coming off a season with RB Leipzig to join their team which was in League 1 not long ago.

But they also have a warning for the youngster. He will be trying to claim the place of one of three central defenders at the club, all of whom are very familiar with manager Chris Wilder’s very particular system, and it won’t be easy for Ampadu to break into that side.

“There is no guarantee he will be able to oust one of Wilder’s starting centre-backs” they warn, and that’s a scary prospect for Blues fans. Ampadu is highly rated, and watching him sit on the bench all year in Germany was painful.

If it were to happen again this year, it might seriously start to affect his development at the top level.

We can only hope that Frank Lampard has had serious assurances over playing time for the youngster.
