Chelsea are 3-0 down and in total disarray at the Hawthorns.
The Blues made two absolutely awful mistakes in the first period, and then conceded to a set piece, to leave themselves in a huge hole.
We’re sure there will be half time changes, and probably the hairdryer coming out, but even that won’t be enough to keep some fans happy.
The voices on social media criticising the team – and Frank Lampard in particular – have got a lot louder, and some seem to have had enough already. One called it a “horrendous performance”, and that’s about as mildly as one could put it.
It’s a long way back from here, and even doing the incredible and dragging it back to 3-3 still would leave most fans feeling unhappy.
We would warn them that the season is long, and there are still a lot of players to come back, but there’s no excuses for this, especially some of the individual errors that have let the team down.
That goes for the strikers as much as the defenders, but there’s nobody out there playing well at the moment.

Mendy won’t fix any of the above… #CFC

I think #CFC should do what Man Utd did at southampton many years ago and change the kit at half-time.

Where is Zouma and why isn't he playing alongside Silva?
— BlueTweetsFC™ (@BlueTweetsFC) September 26, 2020
3-0 down to West Brom.
No Kepa.
No Jorginho.
No Rudiger.
No tactics.
No gameplan.Who's the biggest person to blame now? 🤐
— Futbol Chelsea (@FutbolCheIsea) September 26, 2020
Honestly? Feels like Conte's last season today. Individual errors that no professional at a club like #CFC should be making blamed on the coach. He can't go out there and hold their hands. They have to show some fortitude. Lampard should destroy them all at the half #WBACHE

Was hoping Thiago Silva would be a quick fix 😭
— BlueTweetsFC™ (@BlueTweetsFC) September 26, 2020
I don't understand what we are going for tactically today? Can someone please explain it to me? Seems like we lack any sort of structure both in attack and in defence.

What a perfect storm that was. Chelsea actually look pretty good going forward but the finishing has been poor.
In the meantime West Brom scored all of their first three shots, the first two of which came directly from horrendous individual mistakes. And then a corner… #CFC

Ha ha April fools! Alright Premier League play the right game. Joke’s gone on too long
— Andres (@BOP_Andres) September 26, 2020
Crazy thing is, Chelsea were playing pretty crisply down 1-0 before the Thiago Silva mistake. A goal felt imminent… and then maybe way more.
But once down 2-0 they’ve been so sloppy & so lifeless at times. That’s just hugely disappointing.

Lampard's tactics:
Give the ball to Reece James and pray.
— Futbol Chelsea (@FutbolCheIsea) September 26, 2020
conceding from two individual errors by defenders and a set piece is most dispiriting
— Dávid Pásztor (@D_Peezy) September 26, 2020
Chelsea: 9 shots, 78% possession
West Brom: 3 shots, 22%, 3 goals
Horrendous performance.

1 – Thiago Silva is the first outfield player to make an error leading to a goal on their Premier League debut since Issa Diop for West Ham against Arsenal in August 2018. Rusty. #WBACHE pic.twitter.com/g3OXZPG74P

Awful finishing from Tammy this half. Damn.

#CFC lead 9-3 in attempts on goal but are losing 3-0.
— Simon Johnson (@SJohnsonSport) September 26, 2020
That's a clean shot for Abraham. How do you not even hit the target?

3️⃣ strikes again. pic.twitter.com/aN2T9OO7aj

I genuinely think no defenders can be bought to make this better.
This is a joke.

It’s not the defenders, it’s the system
