Havertz is Chelsea’s biggest signing since Hazard

The feeling of waiting for Kai Havertz to make his debut reminds us of one thing and one thing only – the exact same anticipating ahead of Eden Hazard’s debut against Wigan way back in 2012.

That was the last time we were so excited to see a new Chelsea player pull on the shirt and play, and that’s in a summer where we also added Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to the squad.

In fact, if you want to go back to a league starting fixture we were as excited for as this one, it would have to be the match against Manchester United at the start of Jose Mourinho’s first spell as manager, with a new coach and a new team.

This is the same thrill that we had then, and we might not have to wait long to see him step on the pitch. With over a week to go there’s a chance he will get enough time in training with Frank Lampard to at least be on the bench. With Werner and Ziyech likely to start, the Blues boss might be a little more cautious with Havertz’ introduction, but he will be as impatient as the rest of us to see him on the pitch.
