Chelsea’s squad getting fitter and stronger with free week

Under normal circumstances, playing on a Monday and then again Sunday would constitute a slightly short week, not a long one. But this is going to be a season of constant 3-game-weeks, and we’re going to have to learn to relish these occasional 6/7 day breaks.

It’s more important now than ever, given the new players trying to get up to speed and learn to play with their teammates.

This Sunday should see every Chelsea player who featured last night ready to go again, given it sounds like Timo Werner’s dead leg won’t be an issue.

Not only will the German be available, Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are also likely to have shaken off their minor knocks by then.

Ben Chilwell won’t be far off fitness either, although it’s not clear if Sunday will come too soon for him. Regardless, Frank Lampard will have more options to choose from against Liverpool, and those who have already played this week will be fitter and sharper than last night.
