“I almost signed for Tottenham” – Chelsea star reveals he almost made shocking second London switch

Olivier Giroud was behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in Frank Lampard’s thinking for the first half of last season, and featured so little that he looked certain to leave in January.

The striker wanted to play ahead of Euro 2020, with no clue then that it would be cancelled.

There were no shortage of teams interested, as the striker reveals in quotes picked up by Goal.com from So Foot in France:

“For my part, it was not the solutions that were lacking: I almost signed for Lazio, Inter… I was even so determined to leave that I even almost signed for Tottenham!” the forward explained.

In the end, Chelsea couldn’t find a good enough replacement, and Giroud was forced to stay. It ended up working out for everyone – he was key in getting us to the Champions League, Euro 2020 was postponed a year anyway, and the France star signed a new contract at Chelsea anyway.

Now it’s down to him to beat out the ever-growing competition for places once again.
