Timo Werner’s former manager explains which games don’t suit the striker

Chelsea’s big signing of the summer so far Timo Werner is already training with the Blues, which is great news for Frank Lampard, but not so much for his former club RB Leipzig.

While he saw out the domestic season with the Saxon club, he decided to not stick around for their European campaign, which continued last night with an impressive win over Atletico Madrid.

They didn’t need Werner in that game, and in quotes picked up by Football.London the next day, manager Julien Nagelsmann explained why:

“The opponents are probably not the best for Timo Werner because there’s not a lot of space behind the defensive line and we decided to play with three offensive midfielders to create spaces between the lines and they did it very well.”

It goes to show what Werner is best at without doubt – running into space behind defences with his extreme pace, and then finding the net with his cool finishing.

There will be plenty of Premier League teams who will be picking up on these hints about how to stop him, and they may try something similar.

But with the quality we’re adding in other areas of the pitch, it may end up being impossible for them to stop us whatever they try.
