Sergio Reguilon refuses to rule out staying in Seville after impressive breakout season

Two years ago, Sergio Reguilon was just another talented player in Real Madrid’s academy.

Then he got a year playing on and off for the first team, leading eventually to his loan move to Sevilla this season. He really excelled there in his first season of regularly starting in senior football, and before you know it he’s being linked with a move to Chelsea.

That’s all very flattering, but it might all be a little premature, and he knows it. Speaking in Spanish paper Estadio Deportivo today, the left back has refused to rule out the idea he might stay put, given the success he’s having.

“We’ll talk about it calmly… after the Europa League.”

Seville are one of the teams left in European competition, which will conclude next weekend after a hectic knockout in Germany.

It doesn’t seem likely he would turn down a move to Stamford Bridge if one is really available to him, but it might be a sensible move given the struggles some signings have had in West London in recent seasons after a breakout season on the continent.
