With all the transfer news floating around the club at the moment, Chelsea have perhaps made one of their biggest signings of the summer yesterday.
Frank Lampard has hired a new coach – Anthony Barry was officially confirmed on the club website yesterday.
Barry arrives from Wigan and joins Chelsea’s existing coaching team, meaning he is not replacing anyone.
This is a top bit of recruitment from Lampard, knowing how badly he needs to improve the defensive side of his game as well as set pieces.
As Chelsea podcast host Alex Goldberg tweeted yesterday after information he received from guests on his show, Barry is a great set piece coach.
Someone at Wigan told me re: Anthony Barry: “When CB Chey Dunkley scored 6 goals last season, he said it was down to Barry’s ideas from set pieces.”
Also, as I understand it, Lampard definitely chose Barry. They were on the same coaching course awhile back & have kept in touch.

Barry emphasises more on the defensive side of coaching, meaning he will immediately help to stop Chelsea’s leaky back line.
Chelsea have now confirmed this!
Under rated capture this, a very good coach that emphasises on the defensive side.

Barry got to work right away and was seen coaching alongside Lampard at Cobham yesterday. Let’s hope he can make that all important difference.
