Michael Ballack’s feelings on how Chelsea’s potential big name signing could fit

Given we were the only team in England he played for, it’s maybe no surprise that Michael Ballack is often asked about Chelsea related matters in the press, especially when German players are involved.

That’s the case in today’s papers, where the former Blue’s quotes about Kai Havertz are doing the rounds.

The Daily Mail had a translation of interviews in the German press where Ballack explained how Lampard could help Havertz grow as a player:

“Havertz is a player that Lampard would help further develop, not least because he himself was a midfielder with an eye for goal, who was always moving into dangerous areas, looking to finish off a chance.”

It doesn’t seem like the Leverkusen player needs too much help with that anyway. His stats over the last couple of seasons show that he’s already one of the most goal-threatening players in football at the moment, and the areas he needs to develop may be his play deeper on the field.

In any case, Lampard likes systems that suit midfielders who get forward, as Mason Mount has found out this season. The pair could be a truly dangerous combination for opposition teams next season if the Havertz deal an finally be concluded.
