Kai Havertz will be allowed to leave if “certain conditions” are met

Nobody knows if Chelsea will have Kai Havertz on their books by the end of this season, but what we can say for sure is that the Blues know what they have to do if they want to make it happen.

By all accounts Havertz is keen to join, and personal terms have been agreed behind the scenes.

Chelsea just need to persuade Bayer Leverkusen to sell now, and that will require the Blues meeting the requirements:

“No decision has been made yet. I’d like to repeat myself by emphasizing that we’re talking about a wonderful footballer,” Völler told Kicker in an article not yet online, but quoted from the paper edition on BuLinews.com:

“There is nothing new in this regard. We have a clear and mutual agreement with him and his representatives that he can only leave under certain conditions. Otherwise he will stay.”

While we don’t know from the outside what those conditions are, there’s no doubting it will have been made very clear to Chelsea what they need to do to sign the attacking midfielder.

Of course there will be haggling and pushing back from our end, but ultimately they can name their price and tell us to match it. Figures like Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia have to ask themselves how much they think the German talent is really worth.
