Jan Oblak opens the door to Chelsea move with first hints about leaving Atletico

Signing Jan Oblak has always seemed a distant dream for Chelsea fans.

He’s one of the top goalies in the world, and would improve the team immensely if he were to sign. But given how much he would cost, given how much we’re spending on other parts of the team this summer, and given we broke the world record fee for a keeper just two summers ago.

So despite the rumours, we’ve tried to put the though of signing him out of our minds.

But today, for the first time, we’ve seen some hints in the press from the stopper that he might be interested in a move away from the Spanish capital. AS had a video interview from his press conference ahead of tonight’s game against RB Leipzig in the Champions League where he didn’t close the door on a move.

“I hope there are three games to play [this season. Then there will be time to talk.”

It’s hardly strong hint, but he could have said “I’m staying at Atleti until I retire” or something along those lines if he wanted to. Instead, he chose to leave some uncertainty.

Just enough to give Chelsea fans the first flickering of excitement.
