Edouard Mendy no longer looks a cheap option as Rennes dig in

Edouard Mendy is “untransferable,” according to a report in Oest France this morning.

The Rennes goalkeeper has been linked with Chelsea in recent weeks as the club look for more affordable solutions to finding a player to compete with Kepa this coming season, but this is sounding less and less like an option.

Rennes have already started their Ligue 1 season, and selling your first choice keeper with the league underway is hardly a recipe for success.

Of course they could be persuaded by a big enough price, but that would really defeat the point of trying to snap up a budget option to bridge us until a truly top tier option is available.

Mendy didn’t feature in his team’s opening league game because of a positive coronavirus test, which will also likely make a move more difficult in the short term.

As it stands, it sounds like we may have to lower our sights a little if we want to quickly wrap up a deal for a goalie in the next couple of weeks.
