Due to high Kai Havertz fee, Chelsea could sign experienced veteran goalkeeper

Chelsea are confident of signing Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of around £70-£75 million, according to a fresh report from ESPN.

They believe that negotiations will heat up in the next couple of days, now Havertz and Bayer have been knocked out of the Europa League and their season is officially over.

Chelsea are also expected to be targeting a number of new signings for other areas, including a new goalkeeper.

Due to Havertz’ high fee, Chelsea could look at a cheaper option to come in and be Lampard’s new stopper as a short-term fix until they have the funds to spend big again.

This is according to The Athletic journalist Dom Fifield, who was speaking on the Straight Outta Cobham podcast today.

He mentions Watford’s 37-year old goalkeeper Ben Foster as an example for this type of option to come in.

The veteran would bring plenty of experience and leadership and could be a good short-term solution to Chelsea’s goalkeeper problem.
