Chelsea are on the lookout for a young, hungry, aggressive and characterful central defender to join their developing side, and in Declan Rice of West Ham many people believe they’ve found their dream option.

Of course at West Ham he’s played mainly in central midfield, as his heatmap shows, wheras Chelsea would likely sign him to play in defence, but the England midfielder is equally comfortable in either position.
In interceptions, tackles and possessions won he ranks in the top 4 in the league, which is exactly what the Blues are looking for. The fact he’s also a competent and accurate passes is an added bonus.
There will be plenty of names suggested from other leagues – the fact that Rice has been doing his thing in the Premier League and ranking with the very best in the division will count for a lot when it comes down to deciding who the club should buy.
