Chelsea transfer for Havertz enters key stage as midfielder is finally freed

Chelsea fans are not the types to enjoy the good times when they come – they just want more.

Maybe it’s a product of having Roman Abramovich as your owner, and having seen the damage he can do in the transfer market when he feels like it.

Whatever the reason, it’s made it impossible to enjoy the excitement of signing Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, because the promise of Kai Havertz is so tantalising. He’s being linked constantly, as in this piece today in the Evening Standard.

We’re close to signing him if the endless rumours are to be believed, and last night’s action will hopefully be a major step forward in completing the deal as soon as possible.

Havertz’ goal wasn’t enough to prevent his Leverkusen team from being knocked out by Inter Milan in the Europa League quarter finals, meaning that Havertz’ season is finally finished.

The main obstacles to negotiation have now been removed, and one feels that if this deal is ever going to happen, it will be now or never.
