We’ve spent a lot of this summer linked with Declan Rice of West Ham.
As well as being one of the emerging young stars of the league over the last couple of seasons, and playing in a position which Chelsea are a little short in, there’s another piece of logic behind the links: Rice is a massive Blues fan.
Now the club are being linked with another Premier League defender – Lewis Dunk of Brighton (see this Bleacher Report piece from earlier this year. And he’s got a similar connection to Stamford Bridge.
In fact, Dunk is such a massive Chelsea fan that he has a dog named Didier, according to this story from the Brighton Argus a couple of years ago.
That’s all the proof we need! Most fans have had similar setups – I had a cat called Zola, in fact (he had three legs, but that’s a different story).
So it looks like whether we go for Rice or Dunk in the end, we will be getting a player who at the very least is very committed to the club.
