Chelsea ‘sound out’ new centre back option with priority target’s ‘crazy’ fee

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is weighing up his options to improve his back line.

His leaky defence was the worst in the top ten in the Premier League this season, despite finishing fourth. So this is an area where we are likely to see reinforcements arrive.

Their main target for that area is Declan Rice, as per the majority of top sources, including The Telegraph first reporting on it back in April.

However, according to transfer journalist Duncan Castles, Chelsea are ‘sounding out’ other options due to Rice’s ‘crazy’ fee.

Speaking on his Podcast, The Transfer Window, Castles claims that Chelsea are now looking at signing Lewis Dunk from Brighton to sure up the defence.

The Brighton captain has been linked with Chelsea before so this would not be a move that would surprise me.

He certainly fits the profile of the type of centre back Lampard needs, and most importantly, he would bring real leadership.
