Chelsea made contact with Real Madrid over Vinicius in 2019

Chelsea are looking well stocked for attacking players now, but it’s easy to forget how the situation looked just a few months ago.

At that point the transfer ban was about to expire, and the Blues were looking very short of numbers up top, with Pedro, Willian and Christian Pulisic all going through periods of injury.

No wonder then that according to AS, as mentioned by SportWitness, the Blues made approaches to Real Madrid about Vinicius, their exciting Brazilian winger.

That was before Hakim Ziyech or Timo Werner were signed, and we certainly don’t expect the interest to be re-ignited.

But if he goes on to be a world beater, it may end up being one of those funny “sliding doors” moments that one looks back on as being a major crossroads in the club’s history.

Still, with Werner, Ziyech and maybe Kai Havertz on the way – you won’t catch us complaining anytime soon.
