Chelsea hope for 20% discount on €100m Kai Havertz fee

This is going to be a strange, condensed transfer window, and big deals will be difficult to pull off just because of the limited time to do them in.

It’s no wonder then, that Chelsea are putting as much work in now, in advance of the conclusion of the 19/20 season next week, after the Champions League and Europa League mini tournaments.

The big move they’ve trying to get done is Kai Havertz, and while they’re confident they can sort out personal terms with the brilliant German talent, they’re still struggling to agree a fee with Bayern Leverkusen.

Bleacher Report cite the €100m valuation we’ve heard in various places, but they add the snippet that Chelsea are looking to trim 20% from that sum.

Whether they’re successful or not in that ambition remains to be seen, but they certainly will be in a rush to find out. Leverkusen are still in the Europa League, and assuming no deal can be done until they’re out, time will truly be getting tight.
