Chelsea have a four-man centre back shortlist as Frank Lampard looks at reinforcing the defence

Chelsea’s biggest downfall this season has been their leaky defence. Without that, they would have gotten a lot closer to league champions Liverpool.

Inside the top 10, there wasn’t any other team that conceded as many as Frank Lampard’s Chelsea, and they finished fourth!

Lampard will now be working on ways to improve the defence, and one obvious thing that needs to happen is reinforcements.

Lampard has a four-man shortlist that he is looking at signing, according to The Athletic.

They are West Ham’s Declan Rice, Brighton captain Lewis Dunk, Burnley’s James Tarkowski, and Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez.

The latter would be the most expensive, and as per the report, Declan Rice remains the priority target for that position.

But you can’t help thinking that two of these targets could both arrive if Rice is signed, due to the likelihood of him also playing in the holding midfield role where he plays for West Ham.
