“It’s the coaches choice, which we need to accept” – Chelsea midfielder shows elite mentality

There has been a situation bubbling up at Chelsea since football restarted, one that has split opinions of Chelsea fans.

Midfielder Jorginho had not kicked a ball for Chelsea since before lock down until Tuesday evening when he was given the last 15 minutes.

Even when both N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic were injured, Blues boss Frank Lampard opted to use 19-year old Billy Gilmour over the Italian international.

Nobody knows the true situation here expect those involved and close to Lampard and Jorginho, so it is difficult to make judgements either way.

But some players under these circumstances would show signs of discontent. But not Jorginho.

He has shown his elite mentality and great mature attitude in his latest words to ESPN Brazil.

Whilst admitting that he doesn’t understand why he hasn’t been playing, he also reiterates that it is ‘the coaches choice’ who plays and ‘we need to accept it.’

WAGNH have translated the interview, Jorginho said:

“I don’t really understand it either. In fact, it’s [Lampard’s] choice, right? It’s the coach’s choice, which we need to accept and work hard to get back the opportunity to help the team, which is the most important thing.

“I’m doing my work, training hard, and I’ll be doing everything to be ready to give my contribution to the team in this path if they need me.

He was also rather coy on his Chelsea future…

“This is another question that I also don’t know how to answer. Honestly nothing has come to me. There are loads of rumours, but there’s been nothing [concrete].

“I don’t know if anything happened between clubs, but the most important thing to me is to finish this season playing well for Chelsea and get the Champions League classification, which is our objective.”
