Chelsea’s “number one” target to replace Kepa named

The last game of Chelsea’s season saw Kepa Arrizabalaga definitively dropped for the second time this season.

The first instance saw him eventually able to win back his place from Frank Lampard, but one feels recovering from a second setback will be more difficult.

The Blues have one significant game left – the FA Cup final, and one Champions League second leg coming too. It’s hard to imagine Willy Caballero not starting in either of those.

That means a critical situation at the back, and one that the club are working hard to solve at this minute.

In the Tweet embedded below, Kaveh Solhekol of Sky has tonight tweeted that Chelsea’s “number one” choice of goalkeeper this summer would be Jan Oblak.

But the high buyout clause does indeed make that seem unlikely.

Given Kai Havertz is starting to look like a realistic move, the money simply won’t be there for Oblak too.

Even a less expensive stopper will end up being costly when you consider that it will be piled on top of Kepa’s wages and world record fee.

The whole mess is starting to look very expensive, no matter which way you slice it.
