“He can go this summer” – Bayer Leverkusen sporting director reveals Kai Havertz agreement

The fact that Chelsea wrapped up the signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech so far in advance of the summer window has meant that all attention has been focused on the one remaining superstar rumour.

The connection to Kai Havertz has only grown more exciting as the Bayer Leverkusen superstar flourished in the restarted Bundesliga, and since that league’s finish last weekend the whispers have only intensified.

Now Bild in Germany have the most important quotes so far – from Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller. While denying that there was anything major to announce, the former German international accidentally announced something major:

“There is nothing specific, nothing to report. As of now, he is our player,” Voller was quoted as saying.

“We have our ideas, we know what he can do. I personally hope that he stays one more year. We have an agreement: if it works, he can go this summer.”

Of course “if it works” is open to debate, and the word is that the German club’s demands could be seriously high.

But if Chelsea are willing to keep up the impressive roll they’ve been on, they may well decide he’s worth the zeroes that Voller wants on the end of the transfer fee.

It was later confirmed by Bild reporter Christian Falk that Bayern wouldn’t be bidding for him either.

Could everything be lining up for the Blues in this window?
