Former Premier League manager names Chelsea’s best young player

Tim Sherwood has been a laughing stock at times, especially after his unsuccessful spell as Tottenham manager (and his then even less successful spell as Aston Villa manager), so it’s easy to forget that he was once considered a good player.

In his work as a pundit he does occasionally say something wise too, and his comments on DAZN (as quoted by The Metro) today will certainly have plenty of Chelsea fans agreeing with him:

Talking about the great crop of young players Chelsea have, Sherwood said:

“Their best kid in my opinion is Ruben Loftus-Cheek. I think he’s a Rolls-Royce of a footballer.”

“They’ve hardly had him because of injuries but he’s got back in the squad now. When he’s s fully fit next season and they’re blooding a few more of the young players that they’ve got and then they’re spending money.”

Loftus-Cheek has had a stop-start reintroduction to football after a full year off, but it’s clear from the way that Frank Lampard has used him that he’s going to be an important player going forward.

Sherwood is right – with these remaining games to get his legs back, RLC can really blow off the cobwebs and be in a position to be a key player again next season.
