Whatsapp chats with Klopp, Lengthy calls with Lampard – How Werner was won over by Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard seemingly has an under rated pulling power for new players.

We already know that he was pinnacle in getting Hakim Ziyech to sign for Chelsea, as admitted by the player himself here on TalkSport.

But now it looks like lengthy phone calls between Lampard and Timo Werner has played a massive part in convincing the German international to sign for Chelsea this summer, as per The Athletic.

They say that the RB Leipzig forward warmed to the Chelsea head coach after conversations on the phone, and decided to agree to the deal that would see him move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Liverpool were big favourites to sign the 24-year old, with his fellow countryman Jurgen Klopp exchanging a number of whatsapp chats with Werner, as per the same report.

It was all wasted time though, because Liverpool would not sanction the move financially for a player whom they expected to largely be starting on the bench.

This gave Chelsea a free run at the striker, and are very close now to officially confirming the deal.
