Tammy Abraham determined to hold on to striker spot despite Timo Werner arrival

The Athletic are keeping up their record of finding the best sourced and most interesting articles around when it comes to Chelsea, and this time the subject of their article is Tammy Abraham.

The striker is in a bit of a funny position at the moment. On the one hand he’s in the middle of the season he’s always dreamed of – he landed on his feet when finally given the chance in Chelsea’s first team, and scored a hatful.

On the other hand, before that debut season had even played out, Timo Werner has been signed, if not to replace him then to at least compete with him. He also has yet to sign a new contract.

But we shouldn’t worry about his belief. The Athletic say he “will back himself to win any battle to be Lampard’s starting striker.”

We don’t doubt his belief, or his ability to do so, for a second. He’s getting better and better and has really filled out during this coronavirus break. The two of them are going to be a deadly duo, they don’t need to worry about who is playing and who isn’t.
