Real Madrid reject chance to sign Willian on a free

Real Madrid have turned down the opportunity to sign Willian on a free transfer when his contract expires this summer.

John Cross at the Daily Mirror says that Zinedine Zidane is an admirer of the Brazilian and his talents, but has decided against offering a contract to the 31 year old.

This should hardly be a surprise, given the quite incredible wealth of talent that Los Blancos have out wide.

Not only do they count former Chelsea hero Eden Hazard in their ranks, they also have Gareth Bale on the left, plus superbly talented young Brazilian pair Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo to back them up.

That’s not even mentioning the likes of the newly fit Marco Asensio.

Willian will likely get a big move to a big team this summer, but it won’t be to Madrid, that’s for sure. A stay in the Premier League is looking more and more likely, with Tottenham and Arsenal potentially ready to offer the kind of deal the former Shakhtar man wants.

“The motives [behind Project Restart] are possibly 100% financially driven rather than integrity driven.” – whose false dichotomy was this? Find out here.
