Peter Crouch explains how Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner can link up

If everything goes to plan, Chelsea will be lining up next season with both Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner in the team.

Some have said that the new arrival will displace the youth team product, but there’s actually no reason to think they can’t play in the same team together.

The Metro even had quotes from Peter Crouch explaining how he thought the pair could link up:

“I think [Werner] can play off Tammy Abraham, I think he’s got that much ability,” Crouch said in quotes originally on talkSPORT radio.

“Obviously he can play through the middle but he definitely can play on the wings as well so I don’t think it will affect [Abraham] too much. ‘I think Tammy’s done enough to warrant his choice as No 1 striker at the minute and I think they’ll complement each other if anything.”

That’s very encouraging to hear, especially from someone who has plenty of experience himself in working in a strike partnership with a smaller forward.

We never expected Frank Lampard to make a signing that was going to limit Tammy’s playing time, and we fully expect the Chelsea manager to be working on a system right now that allows both of them to work together.

We don’t envy Premier League defenders next season. They’ve got a powerful new combination coming at them and it’s going to be hard to stop if Werner hits the ground running.
