Maurizio Sarri sees Jorginho as crucial to his team as Juventus bid looks more likely

Simon Johnson’s piece for the Athletic yesterday was focused on players Chelsea might be buying – Ben Chilwell at left back in particular.

But later on the piece it went into more general details about the Blues’ summer plans, including some potential sales to.

Jorginho and Emerson, the two Brazilian born Italians in the squad, have both been linked with moves away, and Johnson claims that the latter is the more likey.

He says that former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, now at Juventus, views the midfielder as “crucial to his [new] side”, and will accordingly push to sign him once again.

That move might just suit everyone. The regista doesn’t really fit Frank Lampard’s tactics, the Blues would get a decent sum for a player they paid over £50m for just two summers ago, and Sarri would once again get the crucial cog to make his team hum – hopefully.

In a normal summer this signing would probably get over the line. This year? Anything is possible.

“Football in England changed with that Southampton team of 2013-14, there is no other team that had as big an impact in changing the mindset.” – Who modestly said this about their own side? Find out here.
