What Lampard told Pulisic 5 minutes before he scored key Chelsea equaliser

Chelsea were finally back in action yesterday after a long three and a half months off of football due to the pandemic.

It was weird without fans, but a much welcomed sight all the same.

The Blues almost spoiled their own return party though, going down 1-0 to Aston Villa at half time after absolutely bossing the game.

Chelsea could not find that cutting edge though, and it was up to second half substitute Christian Pulisic to get Chelsea back into the game that was eventually won by Olivier Giroud in the end.

The American international had only been on the pitch for 5 minutes when he brilliantly arrived at the far post to turn in a Cesar Azpilicueta cross and give Chelsea the boost they needed to go on and get that all important three points as they push towards a Champions League spot.

Pulisic has told the Chelsea website what Lampard said to him as he went on as a sub:

“I’m really glad that I could come in and help the team in any way that I could. Luckily I was able to get a goal and also help us get a great result.

“The manager just told me to go on and try and help us win the game. There was nothing special or anything in particular, I just wanted to try and use my talents and see what I could do. I’m happy I was able to do that.

“I don’t think I actually hit it perfectly with my left,’ he admitted, speaking about his far-post finish from a Cesar Azpilicueta cross.

“Luckily I got enough on it to steer it on target and I was just happy to see the ball go in.”
